The Plight of the Endangered Black Rhino

During the 1960's it was estimated that the population of the Black Rhino in Africa were about 70,000, of which, 10,000 were in Tanzania, the largest concentration of Black Rhino in Africa. However, by 1984, the population had been reduce to 3,000. That's a 70% reduction! To make matters worse, “by 1990 black rhino number in Tanzania had been reduced by over 97% to less than 100 animals, a tragic story indeed” (Tanzania's Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism).
